The anatomy of joy

ERICEIRA

July 2016

Like every human being, a handmade surfboard is unique. There are no two exactly the same. The shape, the color, the crinkles, the scars, as witnesses of past experiences, all of these define character and individuality. The Anatomy of Joy started from the idea to try and take pictures of surfriding craft with the exact same approach and simplicity as if i was portraying people. Mostly a simple plain wall as a backdrop, natural, indirect light, no bells and whistles, no “make up”. No touch ups. Nothing fake. Just full attention to what´s there. An attempt to look at and experience our beloved joy bringing tools and toys from a different angle.
